Prof. Andrzej Górski,
clinical immunologist and transplantologist, one of the most influential people in Polish medicine. He heads the Phage Therapy Unit at the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław. The institution offers ‘tailor-made’ treatment with phages, i.e. viruses that can destroy bacteria. Such procedures help patients who do not respond to antibiotics. He was rector of the Medical Academy in Warsaw and vice-president of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2020, he celebrated 50 years of medical work. The anniversary is highlighted by the scientist’s latest book on phage therapy. A review of the publication appeared in the leading medical journal „Lancet Infectious Diseases”.
